Bloomsburg Lacrosse Ends Regular Season with Win over ESU

BLOOMSBURG- The Bloomsburg University lacrosse team ended the regular season with a 23-10 win over East Stroudsburg University in Saturday afternoon's Senior Day at Sports Stadium.

In the first half, the Huskies jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead with goals from Kelsey Quigley (Lansdale/Methacton), Kimberly Springman (Downingtown/Bishop Shanahan) and Cali Toms (Pottstown/Pottsgrove) with still over 25 minutes to play. East Stroudsburg got on the board in the 23rd minute when Renee Maniscalco scored to cut the Huskies lead to 3-1. The Warrior's Tanya Welsh then scored to narrow the lead to 3-2.

Springman and Quigley scored the games next goals, extending the Bloomsburg lead to 5-2. However, East Stroudsburg scored four of the next five goals to knot the score at 6-6. The Huskies would then pull away, scoring five straight goals to end the half with an 11-6 lead.

Bloomsburg continued its balanced offensive attack scoring the first five goals of the second half which made it 10 straight goals for the Huskies who now had a 16-6 lead. East Stroudsburg fought back with a goal from Katie Fretz to make it a 16-7 game, but Bloomsburg scored seven goals to ESU's three over the next 15 minutes to win convincingly 23-10.

For the Warriors (3-12, 2-12 PSAC), Maniscalco had five points on three goals and two assists while Fretz finished with three scores.

Bloomsburg (9-7, 9-5 PSAC) had seven players finish with multiple points. Quigley lead all scorers with six points on four goals and two assists, Toms scored four goals and added an assist while Angie Picciotti (Chalfont/Central Bucks West) and Eric Nevin (Haddon Heights, NJ/Camden Catholic) each had four points. In addition, Cara McGroarty (Pottstown/Pottsgrove) recorded a hat-trick while Springman and Alex Totino (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Sachem) each scored twice.

In goal for the Huskies, Bridget Maenner (Philadelphia/Little Flower) had five saves.

Before the game, the Huskies honored graduating seniors Allison McFatridge (Hatboro/Upper Moreland), Meg Taylor (West Chester/West Chester), Totino and Brittany Wilkins (Barto/Boyertown). Each athlete was a member of the Huskies for four seasons, compiling a 36-28 record including two Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship appearances.

Bloomsburg will continue it's season on Tuesday when the Huskies take on Lock Haven in the first round of the PSAC playoffs.
